The Anomaly Archives Weekly Email Newsletter

June 15th, 2016 – Austin, Texas

Hello and welcome to the latest edition of our electronic newsletter.

normalThis past Sunday marked my 45th birthday. It also marked the latest milestone in America’s Amok Murder-Suicide Rampage Epidemic. As some of our readers may know, I am a survivor one of the earliest (pre-epidemic level) mass-shootings by an apparent “Lone Nut.” Not the infamous 1966 UT Tower Sniper incident (whose 50th anniversary will coincide this year with the implementation of UT’s new Campus Carry policy) but rather the lesser known 1979 San Antonio, Texas, Fiesta’s Battle of Flowers Parade shooting. In high school I wrote about the incident (Danger: Parade – Thank God for Mother’s Intuition). On the March 11th, 2008 episode of our PsiOp-Radio show I talked about it with co-host Mack White (starts at about the 48-50 minute mark in the MP3 archive). Mack and I have covered so many of these incidents on the show, talking about the psychology of suicidal contagion known as the Copycat / Werther Effects as well as the potential manufacturing of such “Lone Nuts” as part of sundry covert operations known variously as Agents Provocateurs, False Flags, Strategy of Tension, and even the infamous Manchurian Candidate, Sleeper Agent, MK-Ultra Mind Kontrol Assassins, etc. So on the one-hand, as a survivor, it truly pains me to see such rampant dismissal of these types of events as being “fake” / “totally staged” / “false flags” – over and over, with every new shooting. And yet, I’m parapolitically aware of this country’s deep-state history of mass-murder for political gain as well as its history of exploring how to make people kill, whether through standardized military indoctrination or illicit mind control experimentation.

Whatever the ultimate cause behind Sunday’s horrific mass-murder, it seems only fitting that this issue’s Book-of-the-Week should be Loren Coleman’s important 2004 book The Copycat Effect: How The Media and Popular Culture Trigger The Mayhem in Tomorrow’s Headlines. It’s a difficult read on a difficult topic. Loren is better known for his work in the Fortean field of Cryptozoology – but he’s also known for his interest in and seeming prophetic ability at, deciphering the Twilight Language that permeates the world of these Mass Amok events as well as the Name Game synchronicities that seem to inform the world of other strange phenomena.

Mystery HummmmMind Control

Mystery HumMeanwhile, in this week’s Anomaly News round-up there are several articles of interest including a New York Times article, United States of Paranoia, about the people who feel they are the victims of Gang-Stalking. That article even touches on those who feel they are being attacked by E.L.F. mind control technology and Mystery Hum related phenomena. Two years ago, Jared Keller wrote another excellent and comprehensive article on the Mystery Hums that also touched on the mind control element but also documents the various research into finding the sounds ultimate source. Earlier this year, I myself experienced a series of mysterious deep humming like effects over a period of time. In this week’s news round-up we also have a new article from The Guardian about the Windsor Hum.

We also have links to a Boston Globe article about something I and others have noticed and commented upon for several years now; that there are seemingly fewer alien abductions being reported since 2001. Also, check out the (probably fake) video that’s been circulating of an alleged V-shaped craft floating above Austin, Texas, as well as the many other interesting news links in this week’s issue.

Some great Anomaly-News-Headlines and a challenging music video Cargo Culture treat in lieu of the Book-of-the-Week. Voodoo In My Blood

by Massive Attack featuring Young Fathers
[Young Fathers:]
Voodoo in my blood is living
Blood take I’m chillin’
Chill me got the soul of a mimic
It’s not quite right, you must be silly
Sign of the wars is my grinning
Come in to my time and see me
Suck it to me suck it to me timid

[Chorus:]
I’m yours I’m yours
Why does the blood never stick to your teeth
Momma stop giving me grief
Why does the blood always stick to your teeth
Momma stop giving me grief

[Massive Attack:]
Barely barely grieving
Keep the front door open
Wipe that cheeky grin and come on down
Barely barely grieving
Keep the front door open
Wipe that cheeky grin and come on down

May 23rd, 2016 – Here we are … one week later.

A quick follow-up from last week’s headlines about a teenager discovering an ancient lost Mayan city; turns out a UT Austin professor and others have debunked the poor reporting according to a reporter with the last name of Mulder at the LA Times:

A 15-year-old boy discovered a lost city by theorizing that a modern star map would correlate with ancient Mayan settlements. … David Stuart, a professor at the University of Texas at Austin and one of the world’s leading experts on the Maya, was among the first to raise an alarm. He argued that the square shape Gadoury saw on a satellite image of the Maya heartland was probably a fallow agricultural field. Since then, numerous other experts have cast doubts on Gadoury’s city, some even presenting evidence that what was aligned with the constellations was actually an old marijuana plot.”   LAtimes.com

You can find the link to that and other interesting news items in our Anomalous Headlines section below.

For this week’s Book-Of-The-Week we are featuring the controversial work of journalist Annie Jacobsen. She has written a series of books on topics near and dear to the UFO & Conspiracy communities; one on the mysterious Area 51, another on the nefarious Project Paperclip Nazis, and another on the spooky tech haunting our world (and paid for by our tax dollars) from the bowels of DARPA. Oh and let’s not forgot Annie’s other claim to infamy from before her voluminous forays into flying-saucer-conspiracy-culture: her 2004 claim to have witnessed a group of terrorists doing a “dry-run” aboard a commercial flight she was on.

Book of the Week…
Area 51: An Uncensored History of America’s Top Secret Military Base

by Annie Jacobsen

419OjHWv5ZL._SX327_BO1204203200_Excerpt from Norio Hayakawa’s commentary / review of Area 51 by Annie Jacobsen:

Annie Jacobsen’s book is well written, riveting and thought-provoking!!

The interesting question, however, is:

Did she intentionally allow many gullible reviewers (even a few military aviation enthusiasts who fell into this entrapment) to exclusively focus on the controversy… (i.e., the last 8 pages which have little to do with the rest of her thick and rather straightforward book)?

Indeed it seems that most reviewers (including a New York Times reviewer, and even L.A. Times itself) were sidetracked by this provocative item and unwittingly played a role in sensationalizing her book.

Her ‘anonymous’ interviewee (no longer anonymous, as I stated…Alfred O’Donnell of E.G. & G.) may also have fallen for the trap by agreeing to throw in an obvious piece of disinformation (which he may well have been aware of, as well as Jacobsen herself….as disinformation) for her book.

(as I stated, Alfred O’Donnell had joined E.G. & G. in 1947 when the defense contractor was established)

The strategy seemed to have worked and the book became a top-seller.

It was quite brilliant.

* The book definitely brings up a very important topic, i.e., the significance of Operation Paperclip that played a major role in the subsequent development of America’s Black Budget programs.

Read the rest of Norio’s commentary at his website.

The Anomaly Archives Weekly Email Newsletter

May 16th, 2016 – Welcome to another edition of the weekly eNews.

saucer-smear-october-20-2012Moseley Mystery – This past week the final issue of Saucer Smear (possibly the longest running Flying Saucer / UFO newsletter in North America) was finally delivered, posthumously… about four years after the passing of James Moseley. Past “non-subscribers” were abuzz with news of the October 20th, 2012 issue arriving in their mailboxes, affixed with the familiar typewriter-text “TO” address labels used by Moseley, but with no return address. Moseley was a true trickster and lived up to his many nicknames, including “Court-Jester of Ufology” (and worse), so for one last cosmic joke we raise a glass to Jim! As it turns out, it looks like this last act of stealth publication was the result of a grandchild; a comment from a visitor to the JimMoseley.com memorial site wrote on May 7th: “Jim has 7 grandchildren with whom he kept in touch with up until the end. His final “Saucer Smear” was mailed out to whatever list was available by 2nd girl Brittany Crain Hutchison just several months ago. It must have been a surprise to some as it was written in 2012! I am so glad there is this site.”

So of course, our Book-of-the-Week has to be Shockingly Close to the Truth! Confessions of a Grave-Robbing Ufologist by James W. Moseley & Karl T. Pflock.

And speaking of “Grave-Robbing Ufologists”…

One Year Anniversary of the Roswell Slides Debacle

My, how time flies; it was just about a year ago when the now infamous alien slides case was shown to be a terrible mis-identification of a mummified Native American boy’s remains as those of an anomalous alien being. UFO media mogul Jaime Mausan had been waging an unprecedented promotional campaign endorsing the images of the body as evidence of an alien being connected to the infamous Roswell event in the Summer of 1947. While the mundane nature of the corpse seems proven beyond a shadow of doubt, Mausan and his acolytes continue to carry the torch for this little body being something historic and non-human, while those Roswell obsessed researchers Don Schmitt and Tom Carey have waffled back and forth from admitting the “mystery” has been solved to suggesting there is still something “mysterious” about the body.

mummy[Above: Mummy spoof-poster by Jeff Ritzman]

I was lucky to be a witness privy to the informal open source investigative group called the RSRG (Roswell Slides Research Group) who cracked the blurry placard prominently displayed in the glass museum case the native child mummy was photographed within. Besides Maussan’s media campaign it was the mysterious slides documentarian Adam Dew and company who had found the slides and approached the “Dream Team” … while that filmmaker has yet to produce his movie (rumor is he’s still considering it), another documentarian named Simon Sharman has produced Cosmic Whistleblowers (IMDB) which touches on the saga.

I was honored to have Nick Redfern write these kind words back in May 2015:

“If you’re looking for the ultimate resource tool on the saga of the so-called “Roswell Slides,” the articles, the blog posts, and who said what, where and when, this is it, thanks to Stephen Miles Lewis of the Anomaly Archives. Check it out!”

Roswell Slides – Excellent Resource: Nick Redfern’s World of Whatever
Meanwhile, from our Headline News section, check out this interesting article from late last year that I missed at the time but was alerted to thanks to the guys at the Mysterious Universe podcast. They mentioned this article from late 2015, Drones Are the New UFOs by Jason Koebler at Motherboard.Vice.com – and I highly recommend the MU interview with Clas Svahn on Ghost Rockets Research (Audio). You can inexpensively access the new documentary at GhostRockets.se. I’ve bought my copy and am looking forward to watching the main feature and the accompanying extra footage. If you are interested in the Ghost Rockets era of UFO waves you should definitely check out this documentary and interviews with Clas Svahn as well as controversial ex-Mufon director James Carrion’s take on the subject including his Rosetta Deception and Anachronism, plus a slightly different approach by Micah Hanks in his book The Ghost Rockets: Mystery Missiles and Phantom Projectiles in our Skies.

Speakers, Coordinators, and Guests during the panel discussion.

Finally, in other news … I’ve been following the developments of Magic Leap and its photonic digital lightfield signal chip creating MR (Mixed Reality, after VR and AR for Virtual and Augmented Realities) and in a news piece from WIRED one of the Magic Leap employees interviewed about the technology of creating light that tricks the human perception interface says, “I think its like dreaming with your eyes open” … and I couldn’t help but think of one of the points Stephen LaBerge repeatedly made during his presentation at the Sleep, Consciousness and Lucid Dreaming event that just happened at UT Austin this past weekend. He said:

“Dreaming is perception constrained by sensory input.
Perception is dreaming constrained by sensory input.”

One of the main points made in LaBerge’s lecture was the similarity / parity of perceptual experience between the waking and dream states. The technology and commentary from some of the Magic Leap employees really reminded me of that point. Here are some pictures from the UT Dream event.

Shockingly Close to the Truth! Confessions of a Grave-Robbing Ufologist

by James W. Moseley & Karl T. Pflock

shockingly-1Farewell to Supreme Commander Jim Moseley (1931-2012)
 – SMiles Lewis upon learning of Jim’s passing in November 2012.

“During our previous live PsiOp-Radio show I was informed by a friend of Jim’s ailing health. Shortly thereafter I learned of his passing on November 16th. Jim was an amazing soul who educated and entertained many a post-modern Fortean and Anomalist, myself included. I first met him at the 1999 NUFOC event in San Antonio, Texas. We began communicating about the possibility of my hosting the 2001 NUFOC in Austin. We met again at the 2000 NUFOC held in Corpus Christi, Texas. We interviewed him on PsiOp-Radio back in May of 2010. You can listen to that interview here. I wish I’d spoken to him again before his death. He will be missed.”

Smear’s James W. Moseley Dies

Moseley-1-1Fortean friend, ufology humorist, and writer James W. Moseley, 81, died Friday night, November 16, 2012. He passed away at a Key West, Florida, hospital, several months after being diagnosed with cancer of the esophagus.

Upon hearing of the death of Moseley, Anomalist Books publisher and editor Patrick Huyghe said: “He was one of the last remaining old timers from the golden age of flying saucers. Goodbye, Jim.”

Hail, Hail, The Gang’s All Here! – Remembering The Trickster of UFOlogy, Jim Moseley
By Sean Casteel

The “old guard” of UFOlogy is quickly passing away before our very eyes. First there was John Keel, then Richard Hall, Ingo Swann, George Fawcett and most recently a man who remained for many years one of the most controversial and influential figures in all of UFO-dom, a personality who many loved and others equally despised.

When James W. Moseley passed away on November 16, 2012, at a hospital in Key West, Florida, he left behind a great many friends to mourn him. Though his name may be unfamiliar to the younger members of the UFO community today, he was for many years a most provocative voice in the field of UFOlogy, known for being a comic trickster as well as a serious researcher of flying saucer and paranormal phenomena who broke new ground in coverage of the subjects with his publications “Saucer News” and “Saucer Smear.”

April 18th, 2016 – Another week and another wave of classic-era UFO writers “crossing over”… first we got word of MIB / Men-In-Black mythos creator Albert Bender passing and then came notice of Trevor James (UFOs as Amoeboid Space Critters) Constable having passed as well.

[EDIT: This morning as I’m preparing to send out this issue I get word from Loren Coleman that he just got word that UFOlogist Robert Hall (brother of deceased UFO researcher Richard Hall) apparently passed away back in 2013.]

Trevor Constable’s ideas about UFOs as living creatures have always been appealing to me; though this fascination has not translated for me to modern “Rod” & “Orb” photography phenomena. Back in the Fall of 1998 I reprinted and linked to some other writers speculating along these same lines; two articles by Andrew Gaze from Jim Kieth’s Dharma Combat zine as well as an exploration of the idea by a then modern software developer. See links at the end of this week’s Book-Of-The-Week section.

Bruce Naylor on the Evolution of Science & Religion

April 19, 2016, 6:30–9 p.m.
INACS Nerve Center (directions)
12593 Research Blvd., Suite 302, Austin, Texas 78759

RSVP at the Consciousness Connections Meetup so they can accommodate all attendees. Open to the public. $5 non-member donation appreciated.

“Science and religion are considered the two great schemas for understanding existence. We will be exploring how science provides a “naturalistic” understanding of the universe, and how religion can be recast from the naturalistic perspective.

We will begin with the social brain, exploring how being a social animal shaped the evolution of our brains, and how religion evolved as part of this process. We’ll continue with its connection to group selection in evolution. The initial focus will be on hierarchical social structures and how warfare could be intertwined with religion and tribal thinking in general, through group selection.

Bruce Naylor holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science and has worked for over 30 years in the field of gaming technology. He previously taught at Georgia Tech, UT Austin, and Rutgers. Dr. Naylor spent 10 years at AT&T Bell Labs Research and invented Game Engine Technology used in many games, including DOOM, Quake, Half-Life, and Call of Duty. He has also started game and simulation technology companies. Bruce has many interests in science, foremost being the Science of the Brain.”

Book of the Week…

Cosmic Pulse of Life:
The Revolutionary Biological Power Behind Ufo’s

by Trevor James Constable

Cosmic-Pulse-of-Life“This book presents evidence that UFOs are mainly invisible and consist of both physical craft and living, biological creatures. The author convincingly shows that our atmosphere is the home of huge, invisible living organisms that are sometimes confused with spacecraft when they became visible. Mr. Constable has photographed both types of UFOs with special infrared film, some of which are reproduced in this expanded and updated edition. Despite his bold leap into the future, the general public and official ufology have a hard time accepting the evidence. In recent years teams of engineers and technicians in both Italy and Romania, unaware of Constable’s earlier discoveries, obtained virtually identical infrared photos of UFOs, which were published in Italy. In 1996, NASA used ultraviolet-sensitive videotape to record swarms of invisible UFOs that looked like Constable’s earlier photos. Examples from these photos are also contained in this book. Also covered are earlier pioneers into important life energies that play a big role in this research, including Wilhelm Reich, Rudolf Steiner, and Dr. Ruth B. Drown. This is an important book, recommended for those interested in the higher realms of our physical reality.”

The Anomaly Archives Weekly Email Newsletter

March 15th, 2016 – Welcome to another great weekly edition of the newsletter…

Our Book-Of-The-Week is back and this issue’s selection is a personal favorite of mine. In the 1990s, when I was knee-deep in anomalous fringe-culture, I had come across the works of the nasally-voiced Terence McKenna through the psychedelic rave video Alien Dreamtime (by Ken Adams). I’d read an article or two by or about Terence but it was always something else to actually hear him speak. Years later I’d read this week’s Book-Of-The-Week selection, but I still remember coming across the trippy audio version of the book about he and his brothers adventures in the Amazon; where they were looking for the Spirit-Vine, Ayahuasca, but instead found the alien mushroom. It’s a fantastic tale and the audio version is filled with rain-forest noises and zany sound effects. Be sure to check out the links to digital scans of that book as well as streamable “Talking Book” versions.

As usual, we have a treasure trove of anomalousHEADLINES linked to articles of note from the past few weeks. Here in Austin, Texas we are in the midst of the annual Traffic-Jam known as SXSW. One of the few blessings during these Ides of March is the fact that it coincides with Spring Break, and so the incoming hordes are slightly off-set by the absent school aged kids and their parents clogging the roads. But there are always interesting things afoot during this “South By So What” season, and this year is no different. As a survivor of a mass shooting (The day madness went on paradeSan Antonio Express / DANGER: Parade of Mother’s Intuition by SMiles Lewis) I’m very interested in seeing the latest documentary about Austin’s infamous 1966 UT Tower Shooting. It’s getting good reviews and the clips I’ve seen look very well-done and respectful. I’ve met at least one of the survivors featured in the film and he, like me and others, have grave concerns about the upcoming synchronicity of the… Texas campus carry law will take effect on 50th anniversary of Charles Whitman shooting at UT(MySanAntonio.com). You can hear me talk about the 1979 San Antonio shooting in this archive of the March 11th, 2008 episode of my PsiOp-Radio show… starts at about the 48-50 minute mark within the MP3 archive.

Also in our HEADLINES section … Satanic Panics and rumors of ritual child abuse. At last month’s public meeting there was a lot of talk about tales of elite parapolitical pedophile trafficking and abuse networks. Human trafficking and child abuse are things we KNOW occur. Allegations of SRA (Satanic Ritual Abuse) have rightly been characterized as failures of law enforcement through bad interviewing techniques used with the alleged child-victims and witch-hunt-like round-ups of the accused. Hundreds of convictions from the 1980s have been overturned and it does appear that many of these cases were not actual examples of abuse. Yet we know of far too many other cases where the abuse was real, was ritualized, was part of a network trafficking in children and young adults. Among the threads discussed during last month’s meeting was the infamous case of “The Finders” (What is the Finders Cult?Stuff They Don’t Want You To Know – HowStuffWorks YouTube Video). In 2008 I interviewed Len Bracken, one of the few people to ever actually meet with and interview the head of “The Finders.” We spoke briefly about what he found; you can hear that interview at this link: Blue Rose Report interviews Len Bracken (mp3). Well Austin has its own historic case of an overturned SRA scenario and we’ve got links to theAustin Chronicle‘s multiple issues, articles and video covering the shattered lives of the falsely accused / wrongly convicted.

Book of the Week…

True Hallucinations:

Being an Account of the Author’s Extraordinary Adventures in the Devil’s Paradise
By Terence McKenna

This Publishers Weekly review pretty much sums it up:

In 1971 ethnobotanist McKenna (The Archaic Revival), his brother Dennis and three friends boated to a town in Amazonian Colombia, seeking a hallucinogenic plant that enables the Witoto tribe to talk to elf-like “little men.” In psychedelicized ravings interspersed with diary excerpts, McKenna records their experiences after ingesting mind-altering mushrooms and other psychoactive plants.

A flying saucer slowly flew over McKenna’s head; he calls it a “holographic mirage” of a future technology. Dennis had a revelation about a “psychofluid” that pervades the universe. McKenna flashes forward to Hawaii in 1975 where mantis-like creatures from hyperspace attack his lover, and flashes back to his tantric lovemaking in Tibet and to Indonesia where unrepentant Nazi scientists tried to recruit him in 1970. He posits the existence of a particle of time, the chronon, which conditions matter. A bizarre book.

The Anomaly Archives Weekly Email Newsletter

March 8th, 2016 – With so many explorers taking the final journey lately, it can be difficult just continuing. I’m so thankful for all the friends and family I have who are still here with me, with us, as we continue moving forward through spacetime.

This week’s newsletter was particularly difficult… I’ve been meaning for some time to mention the passing last year of “Texas ParaCryptozoologist” Rob Riggs. I’d known him since late 2001, early 2002, after I became aware of his book In the Big Thicket: On the Trail of the Wild Man. We went on an overnight expedition together into the wilds along the Sabine River with fellow Texas bigfoot seeker, Chester Moore. I’d see Rob speak of his alternative perspectives at various Texas Bigfoot conferences and host him and friends in my living room, interviewing him for a feature article in the Austin Para Times newspaper I was editing. When Rob was managing the local Natural Awakenings magazine, he sponsored the Anomaly Archives’ biggest ever event, the Texas Ghost Lights Conference featuring me as Master of Ceremonies, plus speakers including Rob, Nick Redfern, Paul Devereux, and James Bunnell. The last time I saw Rob was at his July 2014 presentation to the Anomaly Archives. Then last November, I got word that he’d passed away. I was asked to speak at his memorial and I did. I told his friends and family about my experiences with him, about how his research was received by fellow bigfoot seekers, told them about his support of the Anomaly Archives and about our strange experience on the Sabine River with Chester Moore. I also heard many wonderful stories from his numerous friends and spiritual seekers. It was a truly moving memorial for a man who dared to ask about possibilities. You can read more about him and his legacy at the links below. At that link you can also find photos of the the text of his last book, Bigfoot: Exploring the Myth & Discovering the Truth, for pages 100-103 wherein Rob relates the trip we took on the Sabine River with Chester… when the engine synchronistically cut-out after repeated mentioning of ‘El Diablo.’

. . . . .

Sadly, Rob was but one of many losses to the Cryptozoology Community this past year or so. You can find many excellent memorials to those other fine researchers as chronicled by researcher Loren Coleman at his CryptoZooNewsand Twilight Language websites in our “Leaving a Legacy” section below.

Meanwhile, there has been yet another passing of someone whom I and others found inspirational, right here in Austin, Texas: local artist and “Unofficial Mayor of South Austin” Henry Gonzalez. I met Henry and his wife Leea several years ago when my then girlfriend (now my wife) was working with them on the non-profit that they had founded. South Pop (South Austin Popular Culture Center) “collects, conserves, and exhibits vintage posters and live music ephemera from the 1960s through today to educate future generations on the rich and unique culture that makes Austin the Live Music Capital of the World.” In 2010 I became better friends with Henry and Leea as they helped me host a fun science-fiction pop-culture film-series outdoors at the South Pop facility on South Lamar. We launched the Summer Flying Saucer Cinema Series 2010, projecting such SciFi classics as Quatermass & the Pit, aka Five Million Years to Earth!Invaders from Mars, and Starship Invasions. Henry lived an amazing and inspirational life. “Primarily known for his murals and outdoor art installations… he was part of the Armadillo Art Squad at the legendary Armadillo World Headquarter… spent time as the stage manager for the Austin Opera House and for the AFM free concert series… [and] on the road with touring bands” [including on Stevie Ray Vaughan’s final tour]. Portrait of Henry Gonzales by Kerry Awn

Just as we’ve been chronicling the passing of giants in our field of study, so too had Henry Gonzalez been chronicling the passing of Austin’s giants in the fields of art, music, and popular culture. One of his many achievements was “maintaining a vast altar to Austin’s departed musicians and artists. No one deserves placement on that wall more than Henry Gonzalez.”

You can read more about Henry in the “Leaving a Legacy” section below, online at our Anomaly Archives page, and in this article (Playback: The Mayor’s Plan to Save Austin Music Mayor – Steve Adler addresses the elephant in the club, Susan Antone honored, and Henry Gonzalez goes to the head of the Austin poster artist altar) by Kevin Curtin, in the March 4th edition of the Austin Chronicle(Volume 35, Number 27 – e-edition | pdf).

. . . . .

In lieu of our usual Book-of-the-Week, we’ve got a brief article by researcherScott Corralles reflecting on his interactions with rare book seller and independent publisher Bob Girard. Scott is the editor of Inexplicata – The Journal of Hispanic Ufology and corresponded with Bob for several years. After you readScott’s article you can read other past memorials and reflections about Mr. Girard at our Anomaly Archives website including our Bob Girard Collection page, searchable Catalog, Clas Svahn’s farewell to Bob Girard, and The Legacy of Bob Girard – An Interview with SMiles Lewis.

. . . . .

As with each issue of our weekly newsletter, we have a wealth of News Headlines from around the globe.

Among those which particularly caught our attention and imagination this week were yet another in a long series of “strange” teaching exercises that have been enacted repeatedly at schools in England. In my 2013 lecture, The Fantastic Facts About UFOs, Altered States of Consciousness, and Mind-at-Large – UFOs & Consciousness: Part Two, I mentioned that there had been at least nine such events like this between 2008 and 2013 in which the Department for Children, Schools and Families had employed staged scenarios involving UFO crashes, alien abductions of teachers, a bloody crime scene, and even a terrifying World War 3 simulation involving sirens, videos of global catastrophe, and fireworks. Well they are at it again… check out the link in the Headlines section below.

Meanwhile, a recent article from RoadTrippers.com highlights the “hidden gems” at the Capitol Reef National Park. This reminded me of the last “Kook Out” that my friends and fellow para-seekers, writers, and researchers from the old 1990s zine scene went on back in 2003. We converged in Capitol Reef National Park and had a wonderful time hiking and sight-seeing. As always with these gatherings, we told weird stories around the campfire and enjoyed each others’ company. In the spirit of that trip I include a picture of myself below in which I am posing in front of one of the barricaded uranium mines, complete with radioactive warning sign.

Legacy

Remembering those who’ve inspired us…

Henry Gonzalez (Austin Artist) –

“Quien con la esperanza vive, alegre muere.
He who lives with hope dies happy.

With much sadness in our hearts we mourn the passing of SouthPop founder and father, Henry Gonzalez. The unoffical mayor of South Austin, Henry was the keeper and sharer of the stories that make Austin great. His artwork stands as a testament to his creativity, ingenuity, vibrant spirit, and colorful personality. But all the words in the world cannot illustrate his light and enthusiasm.”  – SouthPop.org

Charles Robert Riggs (Para-Cryptozoology Researcher)

Rob authored In the Big Thicket: On the Trail of the Wild Man, published by Paraview Press in 2001. I worked with editor Patrick Huyghe and Rob, proofreading, helping out, and reviewing Rob’s book. My review talked of how much I admired his work. I wrote: ”Rob Riggs’s new book takes the reader on a wild tour through one of America’s weirdest wonderlands. Riggs has produced a great collection on such mysterious Texan wonders as the Marfa and Bragg Road ghost lights, and the Big Thicket’s Wild Man, including one delightfully named Ol’ Mossyback. A shamanistic journey.”

Rob also co-wrote Weird Texas (with Wesley Treat and Heather Shade) published by Sterling Press, in 2005, and Bigfoot: Exploring the Myth & Discovering the Truth(with Tom Burnette) from Llewellyn Publications, in 2014.”

Scott Corrales on Bob Girard

It was hard to miss the ads for Arcturus Books in the early days, when I took my first steps into the pool of ufology. Overwhelmed with information as I was, I never thought to contact them or get a copy of their catalogue: magazines, ‘zines, newsletters and bulletin board postings (remember the long-gone days of BBS?) provided a dizzying mix of information where abduction claims, tales of underground bases and straight-out conspiracy theory shared the cramped pages like passengers on a subway train during rush hour.

It was much later that Joan Jeffers – a devoted Pennsylvanian researcher of UFO and related phenomena – told me to get a hold of Bob Girard, saying he could find any book or periodical I might remember from the early days of sauceriana, or even material from other countries. Oddly enough, I was sort of in touch with Bob already. His former partner, the late Ron Bonds, had set up Illuminet Press expressing an interest in publishing my translation of Salvador Freixedo’s “Visionaries, mystics and contactees”, a great introduction to the Spanish Jesuit’s vast body of work on the paranormal. Bob’s wife Monica provided the cover art for the project, so when I picked up the phone to call Arcturus, no introduction was really necessary.

Book of the Week:
Time-Life’s Mysteries of the Unknown (series)

image

“The Mysteries of the Unknown phenomenon began in 1987 when Time-Life Books began to test the waters for a series of books on the paranormal. Time-Life Books, a conglomeration of the two titular magazines, sold books via monthly subscriptions. Their series and titles usually focused on broad historical or utilitarian subjects like The Old West or Home Repair and Improvement, and were mainly sold directly to the consumer via television ads that blanketed the cable and broadcast airwaves. They were the kinds of books one’s dad or grandparents might buy.

Even within Time-Life, the series was nicknamed, “books as furniture,” says Tom Corry, former Product Manager for Time-Life Books, who helped develop the paranormal series and the ad campaign that saw it take off. According to Corry, who is now CEO of his own company, Healthcare Data Insights & Analytics, the roots of the Mysteries series are actually pretty mundane. “We already had a book series called the Enchanted World, and it was elves and fairies,” he says. “It was a pretty popular series.” Having found an audience for these books, Time-Life decided to see what other left-field topics readers might be interested in.”

DIRECTIONS to The Anomaly Archives

It’s a little tricky to find the first time, so here are the directions:

If you’re heading northwest on Research/183 from I-35, Mopac or 360, exit 183 at the Oak Knoll exit, pass through the light at Oak Knoll, and stay on the access road heading north. The next side street off the 183 access road will be Technology Blvd; do not turn on Technology. Immediately after you pass Technology, there will be a driveway on your right (the only one in that area) — Exit into that driveway. There will be a sign overhead for “Forest Plaza.” After you pull in, you’ll have no choice but to go to the left into Forest Plaza. Our building is the back left building within the complex — Suite 302. If you’re heading south on Research/183, you also exit at Oak Knoll, but take the u-turn just before you get to Oak Knoll, get over the right on the northbound access road, and prepare to make the right immediately after Technology Blvd. as in the directions above.

July Meeting Report

Saturday, July 28th a few of us met for the monthly Anomaly Archives meeting. We had a good time discussing a wide range of weird Central Texas news stories as well as watching some new UFO sighting videos, and brief videos covering the physics of information, UFO Contact and more.

We reminded our attendees that our Anomaly Archives Meetup.com account will be going away August 1st. We are sad to close this aspect of our social media presence but have had to do so due to budget issues. Folks interested in staying in the loop on all things related to the Anomaly Archives can subscribe to this newsletter in several ways:

  • – Towards the top of the left-hand sidebar is place where you can input your email address and be subscribed to the website and get updates via email. You will get a confirmation email in which there will be a link for you to affirm that you want to subscribe.

The first news story we watched and discussed was “Experts explain Chupacabra sighting in Cedar Park” about a photographer who captured pics of what authorities assure us are coyotes with mange. We talked about the research discussed by past Anomaly Archive event lecturer Jonathon Downes who came from England to work with Richie and Naomi West researching the wide range of “Texas Blue Dog” sightings around the state – some of which have yielded DNA results which challenge mainstream assumptions that these are simply mange-riddled canines and coyotes.

Then Miles Lewis spoke briefly about his visit to Newport, Rhode Island for day-job related conference. While there he visited Touro Park in the center of town where “the old stone mill” (also known as the Newport Mystery Tower) is located. He had the pleasant experience of meeting Jim Egan who runs the Newport Tower Museum across the street from the park and who has a rather different theory for the origin of the tower. Some people believe it was built by Vikings, others believe it was built by Templars or early Portuguese explorers. Jim Egan believes it owes its origins to John Dee, consultant to Queen Elizabeth I. We watched the shortest introduction to Mr. Egan’s hypothesis which is a six minute video found at his website: Newport Tower Museum.

Attendees then watched a short news report from local KEYE-TV about a herd of cattle at an Elgin ranch just outside Austin which mysteriously died apparently from eating hybrid grass which had begun producing cyanide: “Cattle Deaths Still Baffle Scientists.”

We then briefly discussed the rise in alternative news coverage of the mysterious Men-In-Black phenomenon, obviously in anticipation of the recently released third installment of the MIB movie franchise. We watched a brief classic episode of Unsolved Mysteries which featured Austin’s own MIB-experiencer Ray Muniz.

Miles asked attendees if they knew about UFO researcher Jacques Vallee’s recent presentation to the Ted-X Talks in Brussels: A Theory of Everything (Else). This lecture was not about UFOs per se but rather about Vallee’s desire to work towards a “physics of information” that might explain the many synchronistic aspects of UFO encounters and related paranormal phenomena. A couple of specific events Vallee mentioned in his brief lecture were expounded upon by Miles and the other meeting attendees. These specific events led Miles into a discussion of the recent Aurora, Colorado mass-shooting.

Miles gave some background on his experience regarding mass-shootings; he is a survivor of the 1979 Fiesta – Battle of the Flowers parade shooting which occurred in San Antonio when he was eight years old. He briefly described his memory of the event and his belief that it was his mother’s intuition that kept them from becoming the two fatalities which occurred that day. Miles discussed cryptozoologist Loren Coleman’s other areas of expertise the “Copycat Effect” (aka “Werther Effect”) and Mr. Coleman’s recent writings about the Aurora shootings which he has described as a significant shift and “Red Dawn” event. Miles told attendees about the bizarre coincidence surrounding the first identified victim of the Aurora shooting, Jessica Redfield, who had just survived another mass-shooting the month previous and the even stranger circumstance of her witnessing a bizarre person dressed as Batman at that previous shooting.

We also briefly discussed the continual blurring of the line between fact and fiction by UFO researchers from George Filer’s cooperation with the Majestic ARG (Alternate Reality Game) back in 2001 to the more recent incidents of Stanton Friedman shilling for the “Blair-Witch-Project on the Moon” horror film Apollo-18, Richard Dolan’s recent calling-out of Nick Pope on his spreading misinformation about possible alien invasion during the Olympics on behalf of some game designer as well as Robbie Graham of SilverScreenSaucers blog speculating that former CIA man Chase Brandon’s “Roswell Revelations” likely having more to do with promoting his fictional works rather than real UFO truths. You can read a review of Chase Brandon’s fiction by Shepherd Johnson at the SilverScreenSaucers blog. [More from Matthew Alford.]

We concluded the meeting by watching one of the DVD extras from David Cherniak’s 2011 EBE Award Winning documentary, in the Best Feature Film category, UFOs – The Secret History. This particular DVD extra was 45 minutes long and leads into a 2 hour and 25 minutes DVD extra that is likely equally valuable to discerning historians interested in UFO lore.

Well, until next time, we hope you’ll explore the links below for even more anomalous news…

The Batman Sighting in Toronto –

It’s all so very strange, like something out of the Twilight Zone. Jessica Redfield Gawhi experiences a “feeling” and leaves the food court at the Eaton Center right before the shootings. Then, afterwards, tweets about a man wearing a Batman costume (see screen capture below). Then a month later she is killed in a movie theater while watching a Batman movie … @JessicaRedfield, June 2: “A man dressed as BATMAN is charging tourists to take pictures outside the Eaton Center yelling “MY PARENTS ARE DEAD!” Very tacky & heartless.”

“Red Dawn” Societal Shift Event?!?

  • Copycat Effect / Twilight (Zone) LanguageJuly 19th Loren Coleman emails link to his 3rd Bane/Bain article saying, “Watch the next 36 hours!!”Early the next morning he was awakened by what he thought was someone calling his name. He got up and checked the news and discovered the Midnight Movie Massacre had occurred.

  • Synchromystic Threads“It is always darkest just before the day dawneth.” – English theologian and historian Thomas Fuller (1608 – 1661)
Harvey Dent: “The night is darkest just before the dawn. And I promise you, the dawn is coming.”
~ The Dark Knight (2008) (Video referral: RPJ/Miguel)

The name Aurora means “dawn.” The Roman goddess of the dawn was named Aurora, and her siblings are Sol (Sun) and Luna (Moon). These names in Latin and Greek are Aurora/Eos, Sol/Helios, Luna/Selene.

Anne Hathaway/Catwoman’s public persona character in The Dark Knight Rises is named Selene Kyle (Selene = Moon, Kyle = Strait of Water/River).

Aurora is an extremely popular name in Norway, being the 16th most used in 2006.

Aurora is a suburb less than 10 miles east of downtown Denver. Aurora originated in the 1880s as the town of Fletcher, taking its name from Denver businessman Donald Fletcher, who saw it as a real estate opportunity. He and his partners staked out four square miles east of Denver, but the town – and Colorado – struggled mightily after the Silver Crash of 1893. At that point Fletcher skipped town, leaving the community with a huge water debt. Inhabitants decided to rename the town Aurora in 1907, after one of the subdivisions composing the town.
Coloradois of Spanish origin, meaning “colored red” and “ruddy.”

The memories of Columbine (20 miles away from Aurora) are being recalled by the Colorado and other media….  The suspect’s name translates as James = “he who supplants,” Eagan = “fiery,” and Holmes = “holly” and/or “island in the river.” +++ Personal Note Why am I up this early, as Willie Geist often asks, specifically reporting on this event? Well, I was startled from my sleep, at 4:27 am Eastern, on this morning of July 20th, by what sounded like someone calling my name; I literally thought there was a person in my bedroom. Then I checked the news and heard about the Aurora shooting. I have never had such a startling awakening. Yes, I am open to Forteana, but I do not consider myself involved in psychic phenomena, per se, so this was an unusual personal incident for me.

The Anomaly Archives is currently planning more events for 2012.

Other Upcoming Events:

Nick Redfern’s The Pyramids and the Pentagon clearly and provocatively demonstrates that deep and dark conspiracies exist within the shadowy world of officialdom–conspiracies that have the ability to rock the foundations of civilization, religion, and history to their very core. The strange and amazing secrets of the past are just a heavily guarded government vault away.
